US Liberty Head $2.50 Gold Quarter Eagle
s were minted from 1840 to 1907 and are among the most beautiful gold coins ever
made. The US Liberty Head Gold Quarter Eagle was one of the first United States gold coins authorized in 1792 and first released in 1796.
Until the issuance of the US Gold Dollar in 1849, Quarter Eagles enjoyed the status of being the smallest denomination federal gold coin. The Quarter Eagle was
redesigned in 1840 with new engravings of Christian Gobrecht’s rendering of Liberty.
Gobrecht’s obverse design was paired with the familiar heraldic eagle that has been used in several forms since the beginning of Quarter Eagle coinage.
